In this project we cooperated with Jackson, MI to solve the problem of insufficient information dissemination and disconnection between citizens in Jackson and the farmers market. Based on our research with local citizens, local businesses, and vendors at the market, we identified three major problems:
1. People generally are unaware of what is happening at the farmers market.
2. People want more diverse products provided at the market.
3. People are less engage with the market.
Our solution to these problems is to design a volunteering platform. The volunteer platform aims at connecting citizens and local organizations with Grand River Farmers Market. For citizen, they are able to search for upcoming event in Farmers Market, and further register and volunteer to participate them. The website also provide citizens with general information with the markets such as business hours, contact information, and etc. For organizations that are interested in partnering with the Farmers Market, they could register as an event organizer and contact the market manager to organize events at the market. The website would be used for sharing detail event information such as event date, content, volunteering requirement, and other related information.
Our team considers this volunteering website the most feasible solution according to the current market situation and advertising channel. We hope to use this market to not only engage citizens in the market but also spread the information out to increase people awareness of it. This website could be easily integrated with the farmers market Facebook page and the website of Jackson city to increase its exposure to people. We also aim to use this platform to connect the market with local organizations. By doing so, we hope to utilize the power of the social network existing in each organization as the foundation to grow and snowball the farmer market customer base, and eventually attract more vendors to the market.
