Lexo Glove is a deaf-blind assistive communication glove developed for the MakeMIT hackathon. Teams were given 16 hours to design and create a prototype for a device, and the top 10 were invited back for a second round of hacking with access to a machine shop and more materials.

With Lexo Glove, each finger is independently actuated using a servomotor and fishing line attached to the finger with 3D printed guides. One can input text to a computer, and the text will be translated into movements. The glove will move the user's fingers into sign language positions corresponding to the input text. In this way, it can be used as a sign language teaching device and as a translator from English to sign language for the deaf-blind. In the future, the positions of the fingers could be read and ASL could be translated to English.

Lexo Glove took first place in the final round of competition.

    I was working on this project in a team of 3, and my role was to do the mechanical design of Lexo Glove. This included the overall design and assembly of the device, including the design and positioning of the 3D printed guides and the design of a mounting frame for the servos.
