Overview

Through a partnership between the University of Michigan and Ferndale, MI, we built a civic technology product called Rat Chat. Rat Chat allows residents to text message the city and help with rat control.

The Problem

The Process

  • Define the problem and create a project plan
  • Conduct user research and begin initial prototyping
  • Apply for funding and external support
  • Create hi-fi prototype and hire engineer for collaboration
  • Test MVP on residents of Ferndale and iterate based on findings
  • Hand off product to city officials with comprehensive sustainability, upkeep, and marketing recommendations
