Problem Statement: Our team worked to find a way to collect, share, and save the stories of today’s Jackson community while encouraging engagement with Jackson’s history.

Solution: Throughout the course 2016, each Jackson household will receive a postcard in the mail from the Ella Sharp Museum inviting them to participate in the Making History project. Once a month, a different ward of Jackson will be sent one of twelve unique postcards. Each month’s postcard will feature an image of a document that belonged to Ella Merriman Sharp, the museum’s namesake. These images date from the late 19th to early 20th century.

Community members are invited to engage, interact, and reflect by responding to a prompt that corresponds to the image on the postcard. We ask community members to share stories and memories. Responses can be returned to the museum by mail, email, and by hand. These written reflections will then be scanned or downloaded and put on the Pinterest page, which will give the museum curatorial authority over posted content. Returned responses will also be saved for future generations. We aim to build a bridge between Jackson's past, present, and hopes for the future.

My contribution as a design strategist in collaboration with my teammates to make sure that the system we designed is efficient and sustainable. I worked on setting user goals and exploring design solutions at the initial stage of the project to come up wireframes and system diagrams. Later, I worked on postcard design iterations, the exposition poster and the partner posters. My work also included making sure that the design deliverables met the standards.
